We recommend going by car, it gives you complete freedom (and honestly, it’s much easier). From Lisbon, it’s about a 3 h 30 drive; from Porto, a little less. You’ll be able to explore winding roads at your own pace and stop off in charming mountain villages along the way.

If you prefer public transport, you can reach towns like Covilhã, Seia, or Gouveia, then take a local taxi or bus deeper into the range.

As for accommodation, you can choose between a base village like Seia or Gouveia (with all the services) you might need or a more secluded mountain lodge, to truly sleep in the heart of nature.

What to do ? The essentials

The summit of Torre

A must-see : climb to the Torre, the highest point of Serra da Estrela! It’s an easy drive followed by a short walk.
